In Memory Of Calvin Runion 1935 - 2007
Calvin Runion

WKJV honors the memory of Calvin Runion, brother of Dr. J. Wendell Runion.

Most noted and well-loved for his deep and warm bass singing, Calvin Runion and Eldridge Fox organized the Ambassadors Qt. in 1960 and moved to Atlanta, GA. The group was made up of Eldridge Fox at the piano, Calvin Runion (bass), Ned Kirby (baritone), Charles Stowe (lead) and Jim McCauley as tenor.

The Atlanta experience and the name "Ambassadors" was not destined to be the big step for Calvin. Instead, it turned out to be a stepping stone that would take him to greater heights and recognition as a pioneer in Gospel music.

Just after 1960, Calvin Runion and Eldridge Fox became part of the Kingsmen Quartet and six or seven years later, Calvin left the Kingsmen to sing with the Dixie Echoes in Pensacola, Florida.

Later down the road, Calvin Runion was instrumental in starting the Land of the Sky Boys which once again placed him singing among some of the original Kingmen.

Along with his gospel music career, Calvin Runion was also very successful in the Tour Bus industry as he became founder of Runion Tours based out of Black Mtn, NC.

Calvin Runion was a true friend to the Christian Community as he supported many wonderful Missionary outreaches including the one he also served on as a board member - International Baptist Outreach Missions, Inc.

Bro. Calvin will be missed by many including his wife, Madge and the entire family of relatives and close friends.

We all look forward to seeing him again in just a few days!

- God Bless You Buddy!
