I
was born in Asheville, N.C. and have called it home for most of my life. My
parents, Clyde and Nell Boggs, and my uncle John and aunt Marie Smith were
always faithful in taking me to church and camp meetings. I was saved at age 14
in a Church of God in West Asheville.
Some of my fondest
memories while growing up was my Dad taking me to baseball games at McCormick
Field and eating at Kress and Woolworth soda fountains. Other childhood
activities included playing basketball and collecting baseball cards. My last 2
years at Erwin High School gave me the opportunity to earn some money by driving
a school bus.
After graduation from high
school, I started classes at UNCA. This effort was interrupted by a call to
active duty in the US Army. I found myself on a plane headed for Vietnam after 4
months training at Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I praise the Lord for
His protection during the war.
Getting married,
furthering my education, and earning a living were on my mind after the Army
duty. I majored in business and accounting and graduated from Appalachian State
University. My previous work history includes work with a CPA firm for 10 years.
I've been married for 33
years to my wife, Brenda. Now vacations are usually spent visiting our one son,
Jason and his family in Florida.
My wife and I are members
of Gospel Baptist Church. I appreciate the emphasis there on missions and their
support of this station. I feel the Lord is using my talent and past experiences
here for IBOM.
